No Vape Possible was started by three middle schoolers in the same class who had one shared goal: to help the people around them. What began as a simple idea has blossomed into today’s achievements.

Our team was formed out of a desire to compete in the eCYBERMISSION STEM competition. We connected through school and quickly bonded over a mutual love for science. After some discussion, we chose vaping awareness as the topic for our project. Vaping was on the rise at the time, and a nationwide outbreak of lung injuries associated with e-cigarette and vaping products had occurred between August 2019 and January 2020.

Through extensive research and expert consultations, we realized that to truly prevent vaping, we had to address the issue at its root—through education and awareness.

We designed and administered a survey to gather baseline opinions and knowledge about vaping. Then, we created and presented an educational awareness presentation focused on the dangers of vaping. After the presentation, we conducted a second survey to evaluate how much students had learned and how their choices may have been influenced. The results were incredibly promising.

While conducting our surveys and presentations, we also developed a website to further educate the public. The site includes information on the dangers of vaping, side effects, and the risks of using nicotine devices.

From late January to late March, we worked diligently on our Mission Folder for the competition. During that time, we also had the opportunity to present our project to the mayors of Aurora and Naperville, as well as at the Naperville Public Library, where we presented alongside another eCYBERMISSION team.

The hard work paid off—our team won the state championship and was awarded a $5,000 grant at the national level. This success became the foundation for what is now a peer-led vaping prevention campaign.
